Every year I look forward to watching a pair of cardinals raise a young one or two. I like to think it’s the same pair, but it’s hard to tell. Once they grow up, they all look alike. But this guy is not quite grown up. What makes me think so?
Though he has an adult’s colored beak, the red of his plumage looks a bit spotty, his crest isn’t quite all there, and he seems awfully tolerant of me. Look at this picture! He hopped around the tree, letting me get in several tries.
Then he hopped down to the ground and pretended not to hear any cats making chittering noises. And yes I warned him, and yes he flew away. This time.
He better not get whacked.
