Another tree is gone from the neighborhood. The noise started Friday, just about all day Friday, of a big motor running all day long, interspersed with spurts of chain saw, and the occasional chipper grinding. All day, branches vanished, until only the crown of the tree was untouched. Did they quit because it was the end of day, or because they were done?
They weren’t done. They were back this morning, loud enough that the cats didn’t want to go out. The rest of the tree came down, and then, grind, grind, grind, as the whole tree went into the chipper.
Trees can be trouble planted amid the houses as they are here. Leaves clogging gutters, branches breaking off. Maybe it was getting old or sick. My yard used to have a row of maples right on the property line. Then they were over the property line. Now there’s one left.
But that’s how I got enough sun to plant fruit trees. I wonder what will be planted where that tree was?
