It’s starting to look like a sock. Getting through all the awkward stages of creating the heel feels like rounding rounding a very small scale Cape Horn, what with the backtracking and dropped stitches, not to mention the occasional lack of conviction, disbelief, and baffled rereading the instruction. I still think the way this sock is constructed is weird. But it looks like a sock, and I’m on the home stretch.
Then I get to make another one.
I’m also meeting more knitters, and hearing some confess to losing interest after the first sock. But for me, making the second item in a pair isn’t boring at all. It’s more like a test to see whether I really did learn how the first one works. After all, I knitted my scarf twice.
It’s nothing compared to the beautiful lacy scarf I saw a woman recently. She spoke of the yarn telling her what it wanted to become. It sounds magical. I think I would need a lot more experience knitting before I felt something like that happen, and if I know me, I’ll lose interest in knitting entirely before it does.
PAM!!! How the heck are you! Socks?? You knit Socks?? Did I know this when we toiled jointly on the Isle of misit toys? very nice. and nice to be in touch again 😉
I only started knitting a couple months ago. Back on the isle, I was more interested in the sheeps than the wool. And the chickens. Great to hear from you!
