Robber Flies

It’s too wet and rainy to do much today, so I’m digging into the archives. Let’s see, what have we got here? Hmm. How about more weird flies?

Check out this robber fly from last June. They’re predatory flies that pounce on other insects and suck their brains out. Around here, they’re not so noticeable, but down south, there are robber fly species big enough to attack hummingbirds (scroll down to be grossed out). Another reason to stay in Massachusetts.

  1. Eww. Ick.

Heh. “Beelzebub Bee-eater.” Makes you understand why so many people can’t stand insects.
