I am appalled. Horrified and appalled. I actually liked a sentimental story by Mike Resnick.
In “Bride of Frankenstein“, the Baroness Frankenstein is an irritating woman who is bored by her husband, disgusted by his hunchbacked servant, and appalled by the monster he creates. But as the monster becomes more articulate, she tries to squelch every twinge of sympathy in her heart. She fails.
I like that the monster is much closer to the book version. I don’t care for the sentimental notion that seems to saying, Just think! If only Victor had married before he embarked on his experiments, she would have saved him. How nice. Still, I rather like the way the monster saves the Baroness.
All an awful woman needs is the love of a good monster.
