The first ripe tomato of the year started to color up a few days ago. The red is filling in so fast, I can see it changing over the course of a day. Today, for instance, that pale patch on top was about twice as big.
This took just over a month to ripen from setting fruit. It’s right about the same time as the first ripe tomato last year. The dry weather this year will probably keep away the late blight that was so devastating last year. Also, this year, I went back to my favorite variety, Better Bush. It’s resistant to many diseases, stays within bounds, and produces lots of fist-size yummy, yummy fruits.
It’s salsa time!
