Note to self: If you’re ever in a position to do a fresh planting of forsythia (as opposed to inheriting the previous owner’s shrub placement decision), and if you wish to avoid such a half-hearted display of flowers not even sufficient to conceal the sparrows on the branches from cats and hawks — make sure you plant it in full sun!
