More syrphid flies and the prettiest bee

Here’s some more syrphid flies that I’ve seen recently.

I have names for some of them, or general names like hover flies or bee mimics, but most of them I can’t name aside from syrphid. It can be a little unnerving to see tiny yellow bugs hovering around the flowers, and then leaning in close enough to see the big fly eyes and the bulbous fly antennae on the front of their heads. A lot of them don’t seem all that interested in the flowers, except to sip a snack. They’re inspecting the leaves, hoping to find pests like aphids for their larvae to eat. They still hit the flowers enough to count as pollinators.

And for those of you who can’t stomach flies of any sort, I hope the pretty green Agapostemon bee helps.
