Facing down the bee mimic

On these beautiful sunny days, I never get tired of watching the bees. It’s so soothing to watch them forage on the asters, the butterfly bush, the goldenrod. Bumblebees, honeybees, Carpenter bees, flying up and down the hill over and over again. But one of these bees is an imposter.

I never get tired of how perfect a disguise the Drone fly wears.Even when you get close enough to see that its markings aren’t a honeybee’s, its body is still fuzzy, its tail is still striped. Even its legs look like a honeybee’s legs. The one thing it can’t fake is its head, those eyes.
They aren’t bees, but they’re still beautiful.
