Boskone 2009

Unlike Readercon, which I eagerly await,  Boskone always sneaks up on me and suddenly it’s time.  Though it actually started last night, I’m going to Boskone just for today and tomorrow.  I may not post anything Sunday night.

I’m planning to have lunch with my teachers and cohorts from the Ultimate SF workshop. There’s lots of panels that look interesting. I always have to check out the dealer room and art show. And this year there’s one more activity I was not even aware of before. Would you believe…knitting? (Cue organ sting).

Lots of SF-related posts to come. Honest!

  1. E.E. “Doc” Smith’s Lensman series lives on. “Boskone” was a name given to interstellar pirates but eventually came to be applied to the whole anti-Arisian civilization that was run, behind the scenes, by the Eddorians. It’s been a while since I re-read these books (mostly, I suppose, because the library I visit regularly doesn’t have these books).

Another E.E. “Doc” Smith series you should read is the “Skylark of Space” series.

…and while we’re talking about Smiths, don’t forget these guys:
    Cordwainer Smith
    George O. Smith

    …and here’s one I forgot about:
    George H. Smith

  2. I read “Doc” Smith at the right age, (a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) and I still don’t dare use the word “coruscating.”
Cordwainer Smith, though–he’s still cool with me. He uplifted cats. How can you argue with that?
