For a while, in early spring, it took so long for the feeders to empty, I was starting to wonder where the birds were. Even as more birds appeared and sang, the feeders still seemed neglected. I think maybe they were finding plenty of forage and bugs to feed their babies, which would be good, as sunflower seeds really ought to be a supplement for birds.
In the last week or so, suddenly there’s zillions of birds around. Young birds are growing fast and eating faster. The previous suet block got eaten in less than a day. Oh yeah, that’s what makes the bird feeders empty: fledgling season.
