Racking up the rejections

As I continue to rack up the rejections, a comment I received from The Furlow Writing Lab got me thinking about why I post my rejections here. I think I was inspired by a post by Benjamin Rosenbaum about keeping score and the old story about papering the bathroom wall with them.  Alas (to borrow a rejection phrase), since the days of paper rejections are ending, I can’t exactly plaster the walls with erejections. So I post the count here.

My rejection tally is a way of putting a brave face on things. It might even help thicken the skin. As the numbers mount, it gives a sense of progress. And it tells the world that I am sending stories into it, so you better watch out.
